Napoli closed the campaign with a confident 3-0 victory away to Spezia, which was marred by crowd trouble between the sets of ultras.

Serie A Highlights: Spezia 0-3 Napoli

The hosts were in the mood to celebrate another season with Serie A safety, while the Partenopei had long secured third place. Emmanuel Gyasi was suspended, with Leo Sena, Simone Bastoni, Ebrima Colley and Petko Hristov injured. Luciano Spalletti missed Hirving Lozano and Adam Ounas, but rested Lorenzo Insigne and Victor Osimhen.

It took under four minutes to break the deadlock with a sensational solo effort from Matteo Politano, who started the run from the centre-circle and then curled left-footed into the far top corner from the edge of the area.

Play had to be stopped after 12 minutes when chaos erupted in the stands behind Alex Meret’s goal, as Spezia and Napoli ultras began throwing things at each other, including fireworks. Some Spezia fans ran onto the pitch, players and coaches rushing over in a bid to calm things down. It took 11 minutes before the match could resume.

At that point, Napoli doubled their lead, Andrea Petagna controlling a cross with his back to goal and Janis Antiste accidentally setting up Piotr Zielinski to blast into the net from 12 yards.

It was one-way traffic, Petagna and Diego Demme able to exchange a series of passes inside the penalty area before the German-born midfielder could fire in from close range.

Meret made a save on Daniele Verde’s free kick and saw Martin Erlic turn over from the resulting corner. Rey Manaj had the ball in the net on 41 minutes, but was offside for the diving header.

Spezia did better after the break, Manaj, Kelvin Amian and Giulio Maggiore headers over the bar, while substitute Victor Osimhen’s effort was deflected wide by Kiwior.

Manaj blasted over from a tricky angle on the counter, while third-choice Napoli goalkeeper Davide Marfella had to make a debut save on Eddie Salcedo and was glad to see Manaj smack a late finish against the crossbar.
