A truly spectacular Domenico Berardi volley was enough to give Sassuolo victory against Lecce.

The Neroverdi were coming off a heavy defeat to Juventus, having lost Mert Muldur to injury and sold Giacomo Raspadori to Napoli. Hamed Junior Traore was also on the treatment table, but Andrea Pinamonti got his first start and Maxime Lopez returned from suspension. Newly-promoted Lecce only lost in the final minute to Inter in their season opener.

Watch the highlights here.

Federico Di Francesco stung Andrea Consigli’s gloves from distance, while Domenico Berardi’s curler flashed inches wide of the far post and Ceesay on the counter saw his finish take a decisive deflection off Martin Erlic to loop just off target.

Sassuolo took the lead in style with a sensational left-foot volley from Berardi, as a corner was cleared as far as 20 metres from goal, where he watched it come down and hit the perfect swing to blast it into the net.

There were several dangerous Lecce crosses from the right that their forwards just failed to make contact with, while Berardi’s curler and a Thorir Helgason free kick were off target.
