Serie A Highlights: Sampdoria 3-1 Verona

The Blucerchiati ended their negative streak by beating Salernitana 2-0 last week, but were still missing Mikkel Damsgaard, Ernesto Torregrossa and Fabio Depaoli. Verona had picked up 11 points from the last five rounds, but Nikola Kalinic and Gianluca Frabotta were injured.

Hellas had a very aggressive start, Darko Lazovic’s cross-shot testing Emil Audero, but then Francesco Caputo somehow fired over from close range on a cross from the left.

Samp lost Ferrari to injury and moments later Verona took the lead, the Adrien Tameze long-range strike taking a big deflection off substitute Maya Yoshida to completely wrong-foot Audero.

Ceccherini’s volley flashed just over the bar, but Samp got their equaliser with a splendid individual goal.

Valerio Verre’s cross from the left was flicked on by Caputo, Antonio Candreva at the back post let it bounce and then smacked in the right-foot half-volley from a tricky angle.

Giovanni Simeone stung Audero’s gloves and Ivan Ilic drilled wide of the near stick, but Samp turned it around when Candreva’s ferocious cross grazed Albin Ekdal on the head to fly into the far bottom corner.

Verona kept pushing with Lazovic drilling wide and Audero getting his gloves to a Gianluca Caprari curler, but Samp sealed it in stoppages on the counter-attack. Manolo Gabbiadini’s effort was charged down, Nicola Murru turning in the rebound with a precise left-foot angled drive.
