Salernitana came back from 2-1 down to hold Sassuolo 2-2 after Giacomo Raspadori saw red for an avoidable second yellow card.

Serie A Highlights: Salernitana 2-2 Sassuolo

Franck Ribery, Stefan Strandberg and Pasquale Mazzocchi were still out of action for rock bottom Salernitana, while Rogerio and Jeremie Toljan joined Filip Djuricic, Pedro Obiang and Filippo Romagna on the Neroverdi treatment table. The hosts had been unbeaten in four before last week’s 5-0 hammering by Inter.

The deadlock was broken after a goalkeeping howler. Andrea Consigli seemed set to pluck a Milan Djuric header out from under the bar, but fumbled it and Federico Bonazzoli pounced from point-blank range.

Kastanos had the ball in the net again soon after with a ferocious strike under the bar, but he was offside.

Instead, Sassuolo woke up after a dismal opening 20 minutes and Gianluca Scamacca nodded in a splendid Giorgios Kyriakopoulos cross from the left to equalise.

The visitors turned it around completely, Hamed Junior Traore cutting inside from the left to squirm between two defenders and curl right-footed into the far bottom corner from 10 yards.

Davide Frattesi turned over from close range on a corner, while Traore had another goal ruled offside and Giacomo Raspadori only hit the side-netting from a promising position.

Raspadori showed his naivete moments after receiving a yellow card, as he went straight into a clumsy tackle on Ivan Radovanovic, so the second booking felt inevitable.

Luigi Sepe still had to parry Frattesi’s glancing header at the near post, while Djuric’s header shaved a coat of paint off the upright.

Frattesi was unfortunate not to make it 3-1 on 77 minutes, his ferocious strike bouncing off the underside of the bar and going back out.

Djuric got Salernitana back on level terms at 2-2 with a trademark header, steering Zortea’s cross into the far bottom corner across Consigli.

The hosts wanted all three points and Bonazzoli spun round to fire inches over the bar, then deep into stoppages Consigli flew to beat away another Bonazzoli scorcher.
