Salernitana finally got their first win of the season in a comeback from Ciro Immobile’s historic penalty, as Grigoris Kastanos and Antonio Candreva stunned Lazio.
New coach Pippo Inzaghi was without injured Boulaye Dia, Loum Tchaouna and Guillermo Ochoa. The Aquile were struggling too, with Luis Alberto suspended, Alessio Romagnoli, Matias Vecino, Mattia Zaccagni and Nicolò Rovella carrying knocks.
It was extremely windy in Salerno and that made it very tricky for Ivan Provedel when Antonio Candreva’s cross only grazed the head of Grigoris Kastanos.
Moments later, Emil Bohinen’s ferocious strike from the edge of the area bounced off the crossbar with Provedel beaten.
Lazio fought back too, Felipe Anderson intercepting a loss pass only for his finish to be deflected over by Norbert Gyomber.
Immobile was trying to reach a ball over the top when Gyomber tripped and pulled him down in the process of falling, so a penalty was awarded following the VAR on-field review. Immobile also sent Benoit Costil the wrong way to convert for what was his 100th away goal in Serie A, becoming the first ever player to achieve that feat.
Gyomber was fortunate to avoid a second yellow card moments later for clattering into Adam Marusic, but did throw himself in the path of Manuel Lazzari’s finish.
Salernitana equalised after the restart, as Provedel parried the Antonio Candreva header at the near post and Kastanos reacted quicker than anyone else to turn in the rebound.
Provedel stuck out a leg to deny Candreva one-on-one and Zaccagni at full stretch couldn’t steer in the Felipe Anderson cross at the back post, injuring himself in the process.
Salernitana turned it around completely with a Candreva screamer from distance that swerved a little mid-air, but perhaps not enough to surprise Provedel as much as it did when flying under the crossbar. The move was started by a free kick routine, Kastanos back-heeling it for Candreva.
Lazio struggled to create chances, only threatening when Taty Castellanos turned a free kick well over.
