Serie A Highlights: Salernitana 1-1 Bologna

The hosts held Milan to a 2-2 draw last week on their debut under third coach of the campaign Davide Nicola, but injury concerns remained for Mamadou Coulibaly, Ivan Radovanovic and Norbert Gyomber. Bologna missed Federico Santander and Nico Dominguez.

Ederson’s chest and volley flashed just wide, while Marko Arnautovic and Simone Verdi tested the goalkeepers from distance.

The referee awarded a penalty to Salernitana on 29 minutes when Franck Ribery combined with Verdi and connected with Riccardo Orsolini. However, after viewing it again on the VAR on-field review, it became clear Ribery had kicked Orsolini, who managed to get in front.

It was Bologna who took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Aaron Hickey whipped a cross from the left for practically a Marko Arnautovic free header from seven yards.

Milan Djuric came sliding onto a Mazzocchi cross from the right, forcing a difficult Lukasz Skorupski save from six yards.

Nicola made some inspired substitutions, because within 30 seconds the trio had combined to create a Salernitana equaliser. Diego Perotti combined with Lys Mousset, who rolled across for Nadir Zortea to strike from the edge of the box with a left-foot effort into the far bottom corner, aided by a slight deflection.

Perotti threatened again, forcing a decisive Gary Medel block, while Nicola Sansone came so close in the final minute with a screamer from distance that smacked against the crossbar with Luigi Sepe well beaten.

Salernitana threatened too, Mazzocchi’s free kick palmed out of the near top corner by Lukasz Skorupski.
