La Gazzetta dello Sport has put together a chart of the total wage bills for Europe’s biggest clubs and Juventus have by far the highest in Italy, but most are still dwarfed by Premier League sides.

It is no secret that Serie A does not generate anywhere near as much revenue as the behemoth of the Premier League and that is also reflected in their expenditure.

Italian teams simply cannot afford to offer the same wage deals or transfer fees as the giants of the game, but despite that still have five teams in the three UEFA tournament semi-finals this season.

The chart puts together the total wage bills for the 2021-22 campaign and Paris Saint-Germain are way out on top with €729m, followed by Real Madrid’s €519m and Barcelona €453m.

After that, it is largely all Premier League clubs, as Manchester United paid out €453m in salaries, Liverpool €432m, Manchester City €418m and Chelsea €401m (which will balloon upwards after this term’s spending spree under new owner Todd Boehly).

Bayern Munich on €349m only slightly out-spend Juventus with €337m in wages.

After that, it is a big drop off for the Italian teams, as Inter paid €248m, Roma €183m, Milan €170m, Napoli €130m and Lazio just €99m.
