Serie A: Relegation dogfight

Going into the final round of the Serie A season, SPAL, Udinese, Crotone, Chievo and Cagliari all risk relegation.

Hellas Verona and Benevento are already doomed to the drop and there is one space left in Serie B for next season.

Chievo and Udinese have 37 points, Cagliari 36, SPAL and Crotone both on 35.

If sides are level on points, their status is decided by head-to-head record, then goal difference in the head-to-head record, then overall goal difference and finally the number of goals scored overall.

If sides are level on points, their status is decided by head-to-head record, then goal difference in the head-to-head record, then overall goal difference and finally the number of goals scored overall.

Chievo and Cagliari have a superior head-to-head record over all the others except Crotone.

If Chievo and Cagliari finish level, then the Sardinians would go down.

Udinese go down if they finish in the bottom three, but also have a negative record in the various head-to-head clashes.

If the Friulani finish level on 37 points with Chievo and Cagliari, then they will be relegated.

If it’s Udinese, SPAL, Crotone and Chievo all level on 38 points, then the Friulani are again doomed.

Going into the final round, there are 243 possible result combinations and only two of those would see Chievo go down.

There are seven sending Udinese into Serie B, 15 for Cagliari, 81 for SPAL and 138 would put Crotone in Serie B.
