A statement from the AIA (Italian Referees Association) confirmed that with the arrival of their new President, an audit had been ordered into expenses claims.

They found “some discrepancies” in the compilation of expenses forms and passed on all the information to the FIGC investigative committee on April 21.

“Awaiting the conclusion of the Federal investigation, all the associates involved have been suspended as a precautionary measure.”

Alfredo Trentalange took over from Marcello Nicchi as President of the AIA in February and started radical reforms, including allowing and even encouraging referees to speak with the media about their decisions.
