Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora has bowed to pressure from the regional assemblies and asked for players to be allowed individual training in their centres.

The Government decree had stated that citizens could go for a run from Monday May 4 in local parks and athletes in individual sports could begin training, but those in team sports cannot even set foot in a training centre until May 18.

That was over-ruled by several regional assemblies, including Emilia-Romagna, Campania, Sardinia and Lazio, with others set to follow suit.

With this in mind, Spadafora has asked the scientific committee to re-evaluate the decree and it’s very likely that on Monday the doors will be open to the training grounds of most Serie A clubs.

As they and the Players’ Association pointed out repeatedly, it is simpler to guarantee social distancing measures and some degree of safety if they are allowed to run within the confines of a training ground with several pitches.
