Gian Piero Gasperini returns to Marassi after a 4-1 loss suffered against José Mourinho’s Roma on Saturday.

The 63-year-old remained in charge of Genoa for 232 Serie A games.

Genoa’s Mattia Destro is expected to start up front, partnering Goran Pandev or Caleb Ekuban.

The Rossoblu have only scored three goals during Andriy Shevchenko’s seven games in charge: two in Serie A and one in Coppa Italia.

Four players remain out of action, while Zinho Vanheusden and Andrea Cambiaso are not fully fit, but the latter should start anyway.

Genoa’s first and only win in Serie A this season is dated back to September 12.

Gasperini hasn’t called up Joakim Maehle and Rafael Toloi.

Toloi has been ruled out by a flexor issue in his left thigh, while Maehle has been diagnosed with a fractured toe on his right foot.

Robin Gosens will return to action in January.

Mario Pasalic and Ruslan Malinovskyi are favourites to start over Matteo Pessina and Josip Ilicic.
