This is a very unusual start to the season, as for the first time since 1971-72 there are no draws in the opening Serie A round and a different taboo is broken completely.

Week 1 is now complete and has resulted in five home victories and five away wins.

The last time the opening round of the campaign did not have a single stalemate was the 1971-72 season.

However, at the time there were only 16 teams in Serie A rather than 20, so therefore only eight fixtures rather than 10.

In that season, it was six home victories and two away successes.

The Week 1 results in the 2022-23 campaign were also unusual for another reason and this is an all-time first.

Never before had the top eight teams from the previous season all won the first round of the next term.

Milan, Inter, Napoli, Juventus, Lazio, Roma, Fiorentina and Atalanta all start with three points this term.

  1. And a lot of goals were scored. 34 I think. I wonder what’s the record on that for first matchday.
