NAPLES, ITALY - AUGUST 25: Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of SSC Napoli celebrate their side's first goal scored by Giovanni Di Lorenzo after scoring his side's first goal during the Serie match between Napoli and Bologna at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on August 25, 2024 in Naples, Italy. Napoli got their first win of the Antonio Conte era, as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored one and inspired another for Giovanni Di Lorenzo to beat Bologna 3-0.

The Partenopei were still shocked by a 3-0 defeat to Verona, but Victor Osimhen, Michael Folorunsho and Mario Rui were awaiting transfers. Alessandro Buongiorno and Kvaratskhelia shook off knocks to start. The visitors missed Nicolò Cambiaghi, Oussama El Azzouzi and Lewis Ferguson.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Giacomo Raspadori fired wide within 70 seconds on a Pasquale Mazzocchi pass, but Bologna lost Martin Erlic after just 18 minutes to a muscular problem.

Matteo Politano’s finish from the edge of the area was straight at Lukasz Skorupski, while Alex Meret rushed off his line to smother the Santiago Castro finish on a Dan Ndoye slide-rule pass.

Jhon Lucumi deflected the Mazzocchi solo effort over the bar, but Kvaratskhelia came so close when his looping header from the tightest of angles clipped the far top corner of the crossbar.

Napoli took the lead in first half stoppages with a sensational team move. Di Lorenzo burst down the right, the return pass from Kvaratskhelia showed magnificent skill to delicately lift it over the defence first-time, allowing the captain to control with his right boot and score with his left from a tricky angle.

Politano turned inches wide after the restart, but it was Kvaratskhelia who doubled Napoli’s lead when he started the run from the centre-circle and got a bit of luck with a deflection off Sam Beukema. His celebration was a dedication to his son Damiane, who was born this week.

There was time for David Neres to make his debut and immediately contribute an assist, as he got to the by-line down the right and pulled back for Giovanni Simeone to bundle over from seven yards.
