Serie A legends Clarence Seedorf, Luca Toni and Gianfranco Zola explained Manchester City’s collapse against Real Madrid: ‘You don’t create history in two years,’ said the former Milan star.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team qualified for the Champions League Final after beating Manchester City 3-1 in the semi-final second leg at the Bernabeu last night. The Merengues scored twice in the stoppages through Rodrygo and Karim Benzema netted the winner from the spot in extra time.

Amazon Prime Video Italia covered the game with an impressive team of pundits: Patrice Evra, Massimo Ambrosini, Claudio Marchisio, Zola, Seedorf and Toni.

Seedorf won two Champions League at Milan with Ancelotti in charge, while Toni played with Pep Guardiola at Brescia at the beginning of the 2000s. That Brescia side beat Ancelotti and Seedorf’s Milan in 2003, weeks before the coach won his first Champions League in the dug-out.

The former footballers explained how Manchester City collapsed in the final minutes at the Bernabeu last night, missing the chance to play the second successive Champions League Final.

“I don’t want to lack respect for Manchester City, but you don’t create history in two years, not even in ten,” said Seedorf.

“In Madrid, when you are eliminated in the Round of 16, you can’t go out in the streets. They don’t have the same pressure in Manchester and players do not have the same responsibility. ”

“The more I see this team play, the more I am surprised about their capacity to make extraordinary things,” added Zola.

“City didn’t do many things wrong. Perhaps, they could have scored more goals in the first leg. They made some minor mistakes, honestly, nothing huge. It’s not easy to be in this situation.”

Toni, on the other hand, first thought about his former teammate: “City will remember this game forever, Pep will remember this match, this is the craziest Madrid comeback. City were in the Final at minute 90. It’s a massive blow for them.

“History counts, but you need to start from somewhere to create it. Gianfranco [Zola] played for Chelsea and knows it well. City have gone really close, but Real Madrid are incredible.”
