Roberto Piccoli and Ylber Ramadani both beat Stefano Turati at his near post, so Kaio Jorge’s first Serie A goal was not enough to prevent Lecce beating Frosinone for their first win since September.

Only two points separated these teams going into the weekend, having both reached mid-table comfort following promotion from Serie B. The Salentini had drawn four in a row, including with Milan and Bologna, but Joan Gonzalez was suspended, with Pontus Almqvist absent. The Canarini missed Luca Mazzitelli, Reinier and Riccardo Marchizza, while Ilario Monterisi was carrying an ankle knock and Enzo Barrenechea returned from suspension.

Stefano Turati made a double howler for the opening goal, as first his pass out from the back was intercepted by Lameck Banda, then he allowed Roberto Piccoli to surprise him at the base of the near post.

There was more trouble for Frosinone soon after, as Oyono limped off to be replaced by the not fully fit Monterisi.

The referee pointed to the spot when Valentin Gendrey and Marco Brescianini got into a tangle, but changed his decision after a VAR review showed there was no foul, only a slip.

Banda’s sensational right-foot curler from the edge of the area smacked against the crossbar, though Piccoli was offside in the build-up anyway.

Mathias Soule on the counter-attack and Brescianini after a solo run tested Wladimiro Falcone, then Frosinone did receive a penalty using VAR when Monterisi anticipated Alexis Blin and was caught on the ankle. Kaio Jorge stepped up and buried it into the near bottom corner just past Falcone’s fingertips for his first Serie A goal.

Banda fired two opportunities over from promising positions, while Arjon Ibrahimovic also failed to find the target from the edge of the area.

Turati flew to palm the Gabriel Strefezza scorcher out from under the bar, then Banda again thumped the frame of the goal when he was offside anyway.

Piccoli wasted a couple of Nicola Sansone counter-attacks with his finishing, while Harroui drilled just wide from the edge of the box.

Turati parried a Piccoli scorcher, but as the move continued, a long-range effort from Ylber Ramadani took a slight deflection off Monterisi to surprise the goalkeeper at the base of the near post and squirm in.
