Pedro and Luis Alberto came off the bench to secure Lazio’s 3-1 victory and end Inter’s perfect start to the season with two wonderful strikes after Felipe Anderson and Lautaro Martinez efforts.

The Nerazzurri were missing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while the hosts again froze out Francesco Acerbi and Akpa Akpro. It was a return to the Olimpico for former Biancocelesti coach Simone Inzaghi, protecting a 100 per cent start to the season, and Matias Vecino faced his former teammates too.

It was a very aggressive Inter start, but Ciro Immobile scuffed inches wide with a first-time shot from 12 yards, while Mattia Zaccagni’s strike was deflected off target by Milan Skriniar.

Felipe Anderson shrugged off Federico Dimarco to pull back for Immobile, who forced a Samir Handanovic save from eight yards.

Lazio took the lead just before half-time when a free kick was taken quickly and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic spotted the run from Felipe Anderson, with Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni napping, allowing the Brazilian a free header.

Inter had penalty appeals moments later for a Mattia Zaccagni challenge on Dumfries, but Romelu Lukaku was offside in the build-up anyway.

Immobile almost made it 2-0 straight after the restart, testing Handanovic at the near post on a Zaccagni through ball.

However, Inter equalised when Dimarco floated in a free kick, it was not cleared properly and Dumfries nodded it back for Lautaro Martinez to flick from six yards, getting there just before teammate Lukaku.

Moments later, the Nerazzurri could’ve turned the game around completely, Dumfries allowed a free header into the ground at the back post that Ivan Provedel flew to palm over.

Stefan De Vrij needed a last-ditch tackle on Immobile after the run from his own half taking on four opponents.

Luis Alberto restored Lazio’s advantage with a spectacular finish, as Pedro laid it off for his fellow substitute who from just outside the box hit a rocket off the outside of the right boot into the far top corner, giving Handanovic no chance.

Hakan Calhanoglu’s deflected shot almost turned into an assist for Edin Dzeko, but Lazio added a third with Pedro’s right-foot curler into the far corner after what might’ve been a foul on Immobile, cutting inside past De Vrij.

Matteo Cancellieri and Immobile threatened a fourth on the counter, the latter denied by Handanovic’s foot at the near post in stoppages.

Lazio 3-1 Inter

Felipe Anderson 40 (L), Lautaro Martinez 51 (I), Luis Alberto 75 (L), Pedro 86 (L)

11 thought on “Serie A | Lazio 3-1 Inter: Sarri subs sink Inzaghi”
  1. Lukaku’s first game I watched since his return. OMG, what a flop.
Barella and Brozevic are also very disappointing. Inzaghi destroyed the team built by Conte.

  2. This result is in question. Lazio were given gifts by the referee in part of a conspiracy to derail Inter Milan‘s title hopes. It sickens me to see such a travesty.

  3. This was a fun match to watch. Lazio looked comfortable for the most part. Was worried Inter would take the points, but their attacks weren’t all organized
