Lazio were pinned back to a 1-1 home draw by Patrick Cutrone’s Como header after going down to 10 men, as Loum Tchaouna saw red following the Boulaye Dia opener.

The Biancocelesti were bruised by the Derby della Capitale defeat to rivals Roma, which also saw Taty Castellanos, Mattia Zaccagni and Mario Gila pick up bans. Pedro, Matias Vecino and Patric were still injured, plus Tijjani Noslin and Nuno Tavares not fully fit. Como lost 5-1 when these sides met in October, but won two of their last three matches. Edoardo Goldaniga was suspended with Sergi Roberto out of action, but Jean Butez made his debut after signing this week.

Lazio unveiled their new special-edition kit and had a light show before kick-off to mark the 125th anniversary of the club’s foundation.

Como should’ve been ahead in the fourth minute when Nico Paz went clear on the Fadera through ball, but over-hit the dinked finish over on-rushing Ivan Provedel and turned it wide of the empty net.

Marc Kempf’s glancing header on a free kick clipped the crossbar moments later, then Nico Paz curled just wide on another counter-attack and Gabriel Strefezza stung Provedel’s gloves from the edge of the area.

Samuel Gigot went lunging into a tackle on Nico Paz at the by-line and got some of the ball, but also a lot of ankle, forcing the Real Madrid product to be carried off by medical staff. Como therefore introduced Assane Diao for his debut.

Butez smothered a Luca Pellegrini scorcher and Lazio took the lead when Gustav Isaksen won the ball back with a high press, then Matteo Guendouzi sent Boulaye Dia through to bend the finish into the far bottom corner with the inside of the left boot from 12 yards.

Como thought they had equalised straight after the restart, but Gigot made a decisive goal-line clearance to deny the Alberto Dossena header on another dangerous corner.

Luca Pellegrini was very fortunate not to receive a second yellow card on 55 minutes when grabbing a handful of Diao’s jersey, especially as he had only just been booked.

Loum Tchaouna did not heed the lesson and did receive two yellow cards in under a minute, both for clumsy and late challenges that were entirely avoidable, leaving Lazio down to 10 men.

Como should’ve equalised moments later, but Strefezza turned a totally free header over the bar from 12 yards.

Despite being a man down, Lazio almost doubled their lead when Isaksen started the run from inside his own half and forced Butez into a desperate one-handed save.

Como also lost Alberto Moreno to a muscular injury, while Provedel had to fingertip away the Alieu Fadera strike from the edge of the area.

The equaliser did arrive when Strefezza bent his cross around Andrea Belotti and found Patrick Cutrone unmarked for a free diving header from six yards.

Lazio could’ve restored their advantage on 80 minutes, but Dia and Guendouzi both went for the same Fisayo Dele-Bashiru assist and collided with each other on what could’ve been a tap-in from eight yards.

2 thought on “Serie A | Lazio 1-1 Como: Cutrone catches 10-man Aquile”
  1. Despite being 1-0 up, Lazio were desperate to ruin the game for themselves 😂 How Pellegrini didn’t get a 2nd yellow is beyond comprehension. Still should’ve won it with 10 men. 12m for that Diao?? Serie b level.
