A splendid Dusan Vlahovic brace and Federico Chiesa strike allowed Juventus to see off Lazio, despite the impressive Luis Alberto curler.
The Bianconeri were unbeaten this season and had Wojciech Szczesny back, but shaken by news Paul Pogba had failed a doping test. Maurizio Sarri’s men lost their opening two games only to then stun Napoli on their own turf, so picked the same XI ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
It was an extremely aggressive start from the hosts with a very high press and it paid off when Manuel Locatelli whipped a cross from the right for Dusan Vlahovic to volley in at the near post. Weston McKennie had just about managed to keep the ball in play at the touchline.
Filip Kostic then saw his strike acrobatically palmed over the bar by Ivan Provedel, but Lazio started to get back into the game with Szczesny flying to push Daichi Kamada’s strike over and an Alessio Romagnoli header straight at the goalkeeper.
However, Juve struck again when Fabio Miretti pulled back for McKennie, then Adrien Rabiot laid it off for Federico Chiesa to smash left-footed at the near post from 10 yards. It was his fifth goal in the last seven Serie A appearances.
Miretti curled just wide, then after the restart Provedel made two great reaction saves on Rabiot headers. Ciro Immobile had an effort charged down in the box from a Kamada pull-back and Kostic made a decisive block on Felipe Anderson at the back stick.
Lazio finally got back into the game when Gleison Bremer’s misplaced pass gave it away in midfield and Luis Alberto picked his spot with a right-foot curler into the far top corner from outside the D.
However, Juve shut them back down again immediately with a fantastic solo effort. McKennie’s hopeful ball forward was chested down by Vlahovic, who turned between two defenders and fired right-footed into the far bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Timothy Weah should’ve had a fourth late on, but prodded over the bar from close range on an Arkadiusz Milik assist.
Juventus 3-1 Lazio
Vlahovic 10, 67 (J), Chiesa 26 (J), Luis Alberto 64 (L)
