Serie A Highlights: Juventus 2-2 Lazio

The Bianconeri lost the Coppa Italia Final 4-2 to Inter in extra time on Wednesday, ending the season empty-handed for the first time since 2010-11. However, the mood was dominated by this being the final game in the Juventus jersey for both Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala. As for Lazio, they needed one point to be sure of Europa League qualification, but Ciro Immobile was out injured and Pedro not fully fit.

Danilo Cataldi unleashed a rocket from the edge of the area after four minutes that thumped the crossbar with Mattia Perin well beaten.

However, Juve took the lead when Alvaro Morata whipped a cross to the back post, where Dusan Vlahovic snuck away from Adam Marusic to nod in from point-blank range. In tribute to Dybala, he celebrated using La Joya’s ‘mask’ gesture.

Federico Bernardeschi’s left-foot curler was just over and Felipe Anderson drilled wide.

As planned, Chiellini was taken off after just 15 minutes to receive a standing ovation from the crowd, his teammates and opponents.

Lazio fought back, Perin bravely flinging himself at the feet of Felipe Anderson and Mattia Zaccagni’s cheeky back-heel flick going over from six yards.

However, Juve doubled their lead with fantastic style. Dybala’s back-heel sent Juan Cuadrado running on the counter, it was spread for Morata, who cut inside and created that tiny bit of space he needed to blast into the far top corner with his right foot.

Cataldi again tested Perin from distance and Lazio got one back after the restart in odd circumstances. Patric’s header on a Cataldi corner seemed to be going wide until Alex Sandro prodded in at the back post.

Pedro flashed an impressive curler just over the bar and Perin smothered the deflected Zaccagni strike, while Moise Kean turned a chest and volley wide after a strong Bernardeschi run.

Perin was right behind a dangerous Cataldi free kick, but play stopped for a standing ovation and mass hug from all his teammates as Dybala left the field for the last time in the Juventus shirt.

Felipe Anderson had the ball in the net, but only after Milinkovic-Savic had fouled Bernardeschi.

There was chaos in the final seconds of the match, as Cuadrado was on the counter and too weak in the challenge with Zaccagni, sparking a Lazio counter instead that saw Perin get one hand to the Toma Basic strike, Milinkovic-Savic turning in the rebound from the tightest of angles.

That goal means Lazio have qualified for the Europa League in the 2022-23 season.
