Joaquin Correa made his mark with two goals in an eight-minute spell, as Inter pushed past Udinese 2-0.
The Nerazzurri rotated the squad again, with Edin Dzeko and Correa returning to the starting XI, while the Friulani had Ignacio Pussetto out injured and were coming off four consecutive stalemates.
Nicolò Barella’s sudden snapshot dipped viciously onto the roof of the net and Marco Silvestri used his legs to deny the midfielder after Correa rolled across.
Andrea Ranocchia nodded a corner over in his first start of the season, but Barella – who was meant to be rested – seemed determined to score, stinging Silvestri’s gloves from 12 yards.
Ranocchia knocked on a cross for Dzeko, who was denied a tap-in from a yard because of desperate defending from Jens Stryger-Larsen and Samir.
The deadlock was finally broken on the hour mark, as Ivan Perisic’s dummy allowed an Alessandro Bastoni pass through for Tucu Correa, who sprinted forward and cut inside Bram Nuytinck to fire past Silvestri at the near post from 12 yards.
Dzeko fired straight at Silvestri from point-blank range, but moments later Denzel Dumfries burst down the right, pulled back to the edge of the area for Correa to blast into the roof of the net.
Arturo Vidal drilled just wide, while Roberto Pereyra fired just over the bar, but Udinese staged a late fightback.
Samir Handanovic flew to fingertip a Gerard Deulofeu strike out from under the crossbar, then there was bedlam on the resulting corner, including a save on Destiny Udogie and efforts charged down, before Deulofeu’s goal was disallowed for an earlier offside.
