It was a feast of goals at San Siro, with Sandro Tonali’s magnificent free kick and the Olivier Giroud brace giving Milan the victory.
Tonali only had one previous Serie A strike in his career, and that was by his own admission a cross gone wrong, but there was no doubting this sublime set play.
Alessandro Deiola’s looping header got Cagliari back on track immediately, only for Rafael Leao’s effort to take a big deflection off teammate Brahim Diaz.
Giroud then let loose, finishing off a well-worked team goal before converting a penalty.
