Many of the major European Leagues already have this technology in place after it was used successfully at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Today the FIGC met up to discuss the goal line technology project and Tavecchio emerged confident it would be done.

“This morning’s meeting began a journey that will take us to the application of goal line technology in our country during the predicted time-frame,” declared Tavecchio to reporters.

“I am convinced that it’s use, starting from next season, will be unavoidable.”

Clubs and officials have largely supported the technology, but argued over how far to take it and who will pay for its implementation.

Many are also calling for video replays to be introduced into Serie A, but that is a far more contentious issue.

There have been several incidents this season which would’ve been resolved with goal line technology, most recently Davide Astori’s winning goal for Roma at Udinese.
