Three valuable points are up for grabs for two of Serie A’s bottom half sides when 15th-placed Genoa host Salernitana, 19th, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Friday evening.

Josep Martinez is expected to return to his starting position in goal for Genoa, having served his one-match suspension after being sent off against Milan prior to the international break.

Alberto Gilardino will have to do without some of his first-team options at wing-back, with Junior Messias and Filip Jagiello still unavailable.

Instead, a back three of Mattia Bani, Radu Dragusin and Johan Vasquez are expected to start, with Stefano Sabelli and Ridgeciano Haps at wing-back. Morten Thorsby, Morten Frendrup and Ruslan Malinovskyi are tipped to line up in midfield.

Mateo Retegui is expected to be partnered by Albert Gudmundsson once again up front.

Salernitana, who still go in search of their first win of the 2023-24 campaign, are also expected to deploy a three-man defence on Friday evening, with Flavius Daniliuc, Norbert Gyomber and Lorenzo Pirola expected to start.

Elsewhere, Boulaye Dia, who netted a brace against Cagliari last time out, is expected to start as the lone striker in a 3-4-2-1.

Genoa (3-5-2): Martinez; Bani, Dragusin, Vasquez; Sabelli, Thorsby, Frendrup, Malinovskyi, Haps; Gudmundsson, Retegui.

Salernitana (3-4-2-1): Costil; Danliiuc, Gyomber, Pirola; Mazzocchi, Coulibaly, Maggiore, Bradaric; Candreva, Cabral; Dia.
