Check out the player ratings from Saturday’s entertaining 2-2 draw between Genoa and reigning Serie A champions Inter.

Genoa 2-2 Inter: Player ratings

Genoa

Gollini 7 – A handful of important saves to keep the scores level in the first hour. Not much that could have been done to prevent either of Thuram’s efforts.

Vogliacco 8 – Opened the scoring with an alert bit of movement in the penalty area and covered his duties well on the right of Genoa’s back three. (Vasquez – 5)

Bani 5.5 – Was all looking so promising until the second Inter goal, when the Genoa back line seemed to part like the Red Sea.

De Winter 5 – So-so from the former Juventus NEXT Gen man.

Zanoli 5.5 – Largely focussed on trying to keep Dimarco quiet, but not a lot of success going forwards. (Sabelli – 6)

Malinovskyi 6 – A perfectly fine run-out for the former Atalanta man, but nothing particularly special to write home about. (Thorsby 5.5)

Badelj 7 – A decent display from the skipper, who controlled more possession than any other Genoa player on the day. (Ekhator – N/A)

Frendrup 7 – Ended the game with 90% pass success rate, despite a tough midfield match-up against Barella, Calhanoglu and co.

Martin 6 – More important on the defensive side of things rather than moving forwards. Three tackles, but just one completed dribble down the left flank.

Oliveira 6.5 – A decent debut for the ex-Marseille striker. Made a nuisance of himself in the air, despite not being the tallest, but just as decent with the ball at his feet

Messias 6 – Made sure he was the one to take the penalty and managed to convert on his second attempt.

Inter

Sommer 5 – Made a bit of a hash of Genoa’s opener, got caught backpedalling and was it surprising not to see him tip the initial effort over the bar. Almost made amends with his penalty save, but couldn’t prevent the rebound from going in.

Bisseck 5 – Looking to cement himself as a starter for the Nerazzurri this season, it looked comfortable for the German initially, until the chaotic 95th minute penalty.

Acerbi 5 – Responsible for marking Vogliacco before Genoa’s opener and may have made life more difficult for the opposing centre-back had he not temporarily switched off.

Bastoni 6 – Saw so much of the ball when Inter were looking to build. Just as good in possession as he was out of it.

Darmian 6 – Credit to his versatility that he can do such a reliable job at wing-back. (Dumfries 6)

Barella 7 – Inch-perfect cross for Thuram for the first-half equaliser. Energetic as ever on the right side of Inter’s midfield three.

Calhanoglu 7 – The Nerazzurri conductor had almost 10% of the game’s possession just for himself. 94% pass completion rate and not dispossessed once. Can’t ask for much more. (Taremi – 6)

Mkhitaryan 6 – Slightly overshadowed by Frattesi’s performance when he came on after 66 minutes. The Italian did so well to set-up Thuram’s winner. (Frattesi – 7.5)

Dimarco 7 – Started where he left off for Inter last season, always a threat down the left-hand side. (Augusto – 6)

Lautaro Martinez 6 – Not El Toro’s most exciting game ever by any means, but he has recently returned from his off-season break and will surely get back into the swing of things soon. (Asllani – N/A)

Thuram 9.5 – A textbook centre-forward’s header to get Inter back into the game after Vogliacco’s opener. Topped off with a delightful chip for his second.

  1. Anyone think Inzaghi is a great coach? Half his starting lineup was awful today. Acerbi is old and slow and done, Mkhitaryan is useless, Bisseck is inexperienced, DiMarco is an idiot, Calhanoglu does nothing. Disaster start for Inter to begin the season.
