An exciting match in the mid-table saw an ambitious Monza fight hard for a tight 3-2 win over a slow-starting Frosinone.

The visitors have looked good under coach Raffaele Palladino this term, finding wins over Sassuolo, Genoa and Empoli, putting them on the edge of the top half of the Serie A table.

The Giallazzurri had started well after returning to the topflight, but failed to impress in December, not winning a single match in the build-up to Christmas.

Monza started the match at the Stadio Benito Stirpe well and took the lead after just 18 minutes, when an Andrea Colpani pass allowed Danny Mota to break through the Frosinone back line. He made no mistake in front of Stefano Turati, putting the Biancorossi 1-0 up.

The visitors maintained their pressure throughout the first half and their forward ventures were rewarded in the 45th minute, when Mota returned the favour for Colpani with his own slick pass through the defence, allowing the talented forward to comfortably dispatch Monza’s second.

Frosinone looked a little more positive in the early stages of the second half, but their spirits were scattered in the 55th minute, when Matias Soule accidentally poked the ball into his own net after sliding across the box to try and stop a pass, making it 3-0 to the visitors.

The hosts finally had something to smile about a minute later, when Abdou Harroui sprinted down the edge of the box and managed to blast the ball past substitute goalkeeper Alessandro Sorrentino from a tight angle, making it 3-1 just before the hour mark.

In the 76th minute, a silly foul from Danilo D’Ambrosio gifted Frosinone a penalty. Soule stepped up and redeemed himself from 12 yards out, clawing back another goal for the hosts.

Frosinone fought hard to try and find an equaliser in the closing stages of the match, but their efforts ultimately proved in vain as Monza held firm, closing out their tight 3-2 victory.
