The 20 Serie A clubs failed to agree on the proposed new schedule, which would have 10 games played at different times every week.

There was some confusion, because there were initially 13 votes in favour, but that vote was then revoked.

“The assembly did not make any decision on this yet,” said Lega Serie A President Paolo Dal Pino.

It’s reported the idea was shot down by Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero and Genoa President Enrico Preziosi.

The spread out fixture list, which would include Friday and Monday games as well as all different kick-offs, was requested by new Serie A rights holders DAZN.

That is because they are a streaming service and were afraid more than one match at a time would potentially overload their servers.

Samp President Ferrero suggested last week the idea could be adopted, but only for more money in the rights deal.

“We have taken the necessary time to see if there are better solutions out there,” added Genoa chief Preziosi.
