Serie A Highlights: Fiorentina 1-2 Napoli

The Partenopei had a 100 per cent Serie A record after six rounds, but were coming off their first defeat of the season in the Europa League to Spartak Moscow, which saw Mario Rui sent off in the opening half-hour. Stanislav Lobotka was the only remaining absentee, while the Viola continued to miss Gaetano Castrovilli, but welcomed back Nico Gonzalez from suspension.

David Ospina had his gloves stung by a sudden Erick Pulgar strike, and Fiorentina took the lead when Dusan Vlahovic peeled away from Fabian Ruiz to knock down a corner for the Lucas Martinez-Quarta volley from eight yards.

Hirving Lozano tested Bartlomiej Dragowski at the near post, but Napoli got back into it when Osimhen ran onto a long ball and was bundled over by Martinez-Quarta.

Lorenzo Insigne stepped up and saw his penalty parried by Dragowski, as was the rebound, but Lozano turned in at the third time of asking past a desperately frustrated goalkeeper.

Osimhen almost got a spectacular second on the stroke of half-time, a bicycle-kick only a yard wide of the upright.

A Vlahovic volley was charged down from a corner, but Napoli turned the game around completely with a free kick routine. Piotr Zielinski pretended to walk away, only to then run up and dink it over the top for Amir Rrahmani’s diving header at the back post.

Osimhen hit the side-netting, but Fiorentina forced practically a goal-line clearance from Fabian Ruiz as Nikola Milenkovic knocked the corner back from the by-line.

Vlahovic hit a fresh-air shot when Nico Gonzalez squared a promising assist and Alvaro Odriozola tested Ospina, but Eljif Elmas also came sliding in a fraction too late to meet the Osimhen roll across.

Matteo Politano drilled just wide after sprinting away from Cristian Biraghi, as once again Fiorentina had a good first half against one of the big clubs, but couldn’t make it stick. There was more bad news for the Viola, as Dragowski seemed to hurt his hip during a strange clearance in stoppages.

Martinez-Quarta 28 (F), Lozano 38 (N), Rrahmani 50 (N)

Saved penalty: Insigne 38 (N)
