Arthur Cabral’s scorcher was not enough for Fiorentina, as Monza came back with Carlos Augusto to grab a point at the Stadio Franchi.

The Viola were missing Rolando Mandragora, Riccardo Sottil and Nico Gonzalez, but gave Alessandro Bianco his Serie A debut. Monza had to do without Stefano Sensi and Nicolò Rovella, but Pablo Mari was back on the bench just over two months since he was stabbed in a random supermarket attack.

Cristiano Biraghi almost scored a stunner after 13 minutes, his in-swinging corner going past everyone to thump the base of the far post.

Arthur Cabral broke the deadlock with an absolute rocket from the tightest of angles into the near top corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Michele Di Gregorio got his gloves behind a Bianco scorcher, but Monza should’ve equalised when Andrea Colpani came sliding in to meet a Dany Mota Carvalho ball from the right, firing over from seven yards.

Monza got back into the game on the hour mark when Patrick Ciurria whipped in a cross from the right and found Carlos Alberto ready for the volley from 10 yards.

Di Gregorio smothered a Cabral effort and Pablo Mari made his comeback just weeks after he was stabbed in a supermarket attack at the end of October.

Pietro Terracciano made a great save on Dany Mota Carvalho and Andrea Petagna blasted the rebound over the bar, then Di Gregorio showed excellent reflexes on Lucas Martinez-Quarta’s header.

Fiorentina 1-1 Monza

Cabral 19 (F), Carlos Alberto 61 (M)
