Serie A | Fiorentina 1-1 Juventus: Perin saves a point

Mattia Perin was the hero for Juventus, saving a Luka Jovic penalty and late Sofyan Amrabat chance, after Christian Kouame cancelled out the Arek Milik opener.

The Bianconeri gave Arkadiusz Milik and new buy Leandro Paredes their first starts, but missed Wojciech Szczesny, Adrien Rabiot, Paul Pogba, Federico Chiesa and Kaio Jorge, with Dusan Vlahovic rested. The Viola failed to score in their last four games between Serie A and the Conference League, missing Giacomo Bonaventura on compassionate leave, injured Alfred Duncan and Gaetano Castrovilli.

Juventus took the lead with an unusual move, as Juan Cuadrado’s cross from the by-line found Filip Kostic for a volley that turned into an assist for Milik to bundle over the line from a couple of yards with his stomach. The striker had to crouch down to get the necessary deflection. It was the Poland international’s second goal in just 30 minutes on the pitch in a Bianconeri shirt.

Bremer made a decisive block on Youssef Maleh and Dodo stung Mattia Perin’s gloves, but Fiorentina got the equaliser on a counter-attack from the Juventus corner. Riccardo Sottil caught Di Maria napping and sent Christian Kouame sprinting away with Cuadrado, beating Perin at the near post.

Paredes was penalised using VAR for handball on a Sottil cross, but Perin made a fantastic fingertip save to push Jovic’s penalty onto the upright. It was the fourth Juventus penalty saved from the last seven awarded against them in Serie A.

Danilo charged down an Antonin Barak attempt from 12 yards, then did the same on a dangerous Dodo cross, during which the Juve man got his ankle caught under him.

Perin came to Juve’s rescue again in the final minutes with a fantastic fingertip save to push Sofyan Amrabat’s scorcher out from under the crossbar.
