Lazio ran riot at the Stadio Franchi with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Ciro Immobile and an own goal, as Fiorentina started their post-Dusan Vlahovic era on the wrong foot.

Serie A Highlights: Fiorentina 0-3 Lazio

The Viola began a new era after selling Vlahovic to Juventus, throwing new buy Arthur Cabral straight into the starting XI, while Alvaro Odriozola was suspended. The Aquile missed Francesco Acerbi, but Pedro returned after an injury lay-off.

Cabral almost scored on his debut, his header from a Cristiano Biraghi cross parried by Thomas Strakosha after 20 minutes.

Giacomo Bonaventura and a Lucas Torreira volley were not far off target, but Lazio threatened on a Torreira error from a corner, as Luis Alberto set up Ciro Immobile for the angled drive beaten away by Pietro Terracciano.

Pedro also forced a save and Mattia Zaccagni horribly ballooned the follow-up over the bar from eight yards.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic saw his scuffed cross-shot roll across the face of goal, a desperate Nikola Milenkovic tackle preventing Immobile tapping in from a yard. On the resulting corner Immobile’s header was accidentally charged down by teammate Patric.

Terracciano denied both an Immobile cross and Pedro rebound, but Lazio finally broke the deadlock when Zaccagni’s pass off the outside of the boot from the left was met by a perfectly-timed Milinkovic-Savic run to prod home from 10 yards.

Cabral’s diving header was inches away from connecting with the Riccardo Sottil cross. Fiorentina were awarded a penalty on 65 minutes, but it was quite rightly revoked after an on-field VAR review, because Gaetano Castrovilli simply ran into Luiz Felipe.

Lazio doubled their lead, Immobile beating Nastasic to a long ball over the top and beating Terracciano one-on-one. Luiz Felipe had stepped in for Strakosha for what was essentially a goal kick, perfect route one football.

The Viola defence was again caught out for the third goal, as Immobile sprung the offside trap after Felipe Anderson won it back, managed to squeeze a shot from the tightest of angles after going around Terracciano, but Cristiano Biraghi accidentally bundled over the line from a yard as he tried to clear.

The tension got to Torreira, who was already on a yellow card when his all too furious protests saw him sent off.

It could’ve easily been 4-0, but Terracciano and a bad miss ruined Toma Basic’s chances on a Felipe Anderson slide-rule pass.
