Torino completed a controversial comeback to beat nine-man Empoli with an Andrea Belotti hat-trick, including two penalties for Petar Stojanovic handling offences.

Serie A Highlights: Empoli 1-3 Torino

The hosts were still celebrating the incredible comeback from 2-0 down to beat Napoli 3-2 in the space of 10 minutes, but Filippo Bandinelli was suspended with Lorenzo Tonelli, Riccardo Marchizza and Nicolas Haas injured. Toro missed Mohamed Fares and Marcus Warming, with Andrea Belotti and Gleison Bremer only ready for the bench.

Tommaso Pobega drilled a couple of efforts inches wide, while Kristjan Asllani did the same on a half-volley at the other end.

Asllani also curled a free kick over from a promising position, then Andrea Pinamonti dinked it over the goalkeeper but wide of the target one-on-one.

Empoli did break through moments later with Szymon Zurkowski, whose long-range snapshot seemed to surprise Etrit Berisha and squirm into the near bottom corner off his gloves.

However, the game changed again when Valerio Verre was booked for a high tackle on Pietro Pellegri, a decision changed to a red card following a VAR review, leaving Empoli down to 10 men.

Torino received a penalty for the Stojanovic handling offence, although he seemed to barely graze the Cristian Ansaldi strike. After a long VAR silent check, the decision was confirmed and Andrea Belotti converted to equalise.

Incredibly, the same player was penalised again using VAR for another handball offence, so Stojanovic received the second yellow card and Belotti converted another penalty against nine-man Empoli.

Andrea La Mantia had penalty appeals of his own, but seemed to go down too easily under pressure.

Instead, Belotti completed his hat-trick sliding in from six yards to meet a Josip Brekalo pull-back from the by-line.
