Yayah Kallon scored barely a minute into his Verona debut to grab a point after Tommaso Baldanzi’s scorching Empoli opener.

Both sides were still looking for their first victories of the season, but the Tuscans had two consecutive draws against Fiorentina and Lecce. Lorenzo Tonelli and Nicolò Cambiaghi were long-term absentees, though Sebastiano Luperto returned from suspension. Hellas still had Marco Davide Faraoni and Roberto Piccoli not fully fit.

Sam Lammers tested Lorenzo Montipò at the near post, but Empoli broke through with a ferocious Tommaso Baldanzi strike from the edge of the area that bent back the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Unfortunately, teenager Baldanzi was later carried off with what appeared to be a sprained ankle. Luperto’s header tested Montipò from a free kick and Martin Satriano had timid penalty appeals on the stroke of half-time as he fought with Federico Ceccherini at the by-line.

Kevin Lasagna forced a great save out of Guglielmo Vicario from point-blank range and Montipò bravely flapped a cross off the foot of Lammers at the back post.

Verona equalised with the perfect debut for Yayah Kallon, who only arrived this week on loan from Genoa. He controlled the Josh Doig flick on with his chest and volleyed low into the far bottom corner from just inside the area. The striker had been on the pitch for barely a minute.

Both teams tried to win it, Bandinelli scuffing wide and a Pawel Dawidowicz header on a corner smothered.

Empoli 1-1 Verona

Baldanzi 26 (E), Kallon 69 (V)
