Serie A clubs and players paid tribute to the late Davide Astori on his death anniversary on Monday.

Former Fiorentina captain Astori passed away aged 31 six years ago in Udine, before a Serie A match between the Tuscans and Udinese. The ex-Italy international died from tachyarrhythmia, an abnormal acceleration of the heartbeat, during his sleep.

A former Serie A defender for Milan, Roma Cagliari and Fiorentina, Astori had made 14 appearances with Italy’s national team, scoring one goal.

All his ex-clubs and many of his former teammates honoured Astori on the sixth anniversary of his death.

“Today marks six years since Davide Astori passed away. Gone but never forgotten, his memory shall live on,” wrote Milan on X, formerly Twitter.

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, a Fiorentina Acamdey player six years ago, shared a Lega Serie A social media post in his Instagram stories, while Leonardo Bonucci wrote: ‘Goodbye my friend’ sharing a picture of him and Astori at Coverciano while on international duty with Italy.

Astori’s relatives and friends founded the NGO ‘Association Davide Astori’ after his death, which “spreads and enhances the history of sport and football and the ethical and moral principles and values underlying them.”

The association mainly focuses on “less fortunate children, especially considering the commitment always lavished by David towards them.”
