Several Serie A clubs and ex-players are paying tribute to Sven-Goran Eriksson, and also Sinisa Mihajlovic’s wife, Arianna, shared an emotional picture on Instagram.
Eriksson, a former coach for Fiorentina, Lazio, Roma and Sampdoria, has died aged 76 after becoming terminally ill with pancreatic cancer.
Inzaghi: ‘Eriksson showed his strength in these last few months’
He won several trophies during his Serie A career, most notably a Scudetto with Lazio in the 1999-00 campaign.
The Biancocelesti were one of the clubs paying tribute to Eriksson today.
“Thanks for everything you did for us, mister,” the Biancocelesti wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The club also changed the club crest’s colour to black on their social media accounts.
Roma, Samp, and Fiorentina also honoured their ex-coaches, and other Serie A clubs, such as Milan, Juventus, and Inter, did the same.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi played under Eriksson at Lazio at the beginning of his professional career.
Some of Eriksson’s ex-players remembered their ex-coach, including Diego Simeone, who became Serie A champion with Lazio in 2000. “Thank you so much, Mister. Rest in peace,” wrote El Cholo, posting a picture from the Biancocelesti’s Scudetto celebrations.
Mihajlovic was also playing in that Lazio side and Arianna, the wife of the late ex-defender, shared an Instagram picture of Sinisa talking to Eriksson on the touchline.
Monza coach Alessandro Nesta, another Lazio Scudetto winner, wrote on Instagram: “Rest in peace, great mister and extraordinary person. You’ll forever carry you in my heart. Thanks for everything.”
