After the Government announced it will guarantee at least 25 per cent capacity at Euro 2020 games in Rome, Lega Serie A chief Paolo Dal Pino asks for fans to be let back into league matches within weeks.
There had been real doubt as to whether the CTS (technical scientific committee) would give the go-ahead for a minimum 25 per cent capacity at the Stadio Olimpico for the four scheduled Euro 2020 fixtures.

If the Government had not provided today’s guarantee in writing, UEFA may well have removed the games and played them outside of Italy instead.
“We welcome the Government’s decision with great enthusiasm, as this is an important sign for the country, a boost of confidence and of a return to the normality that we hope can soon include all of our games,” said Lega Serie A President Dal Pino.
“The Lega Serie A wrote up a detailed protocol for how fans can return to the stadium in absolute safety, it was written a year ago, with the percentages set to grow with time.
“We hope that there can be fans allowed in the stadium from the next few games, at least 1,000 spectators, the numbers we had to open the season and that can easily guarantee social distancing in such a large open-air structure.
“By monitoring the course of the pandemic, I am certain that for the final weeks of the season we can have identical percentages of fans to those we will see at the Euros. It would be good to use Serie A as an important testing ground for the protocol to be used at this European event.”
