Riccardo Orsolini and Stefan Posch overturned a Sasa Lukic penalty, as Bologna close to within a point of Torino in the Serie A table thanks to a third straight win.
Both sides were coming off back-to-back wins, but Kevin Bonifazi was out of action with Marko Arnautovic returning, while Toro had Karol Linetty suspended, Ola Aina, Antonio Sanabria and Etrit Berisha injured.
Bologna had just one win in their last 10 Serie A meetings with Torino, 3-2 away in March 2019, with the most recent home victory in January 2017.
Within 20 seconds, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic had to make a desperate save with his shoulder to turn Arnautovic’s volley over from point-blank range on a Musa Barrow ball over the top.
Even stranger, Toro striker Pietro Pellegri slipped straight after the kick-off and sprained his ankle, so had to limp off for Yann Karamoh.
Milinkovic-Savic made a long kick from his penalty area that Aleksei Miranchuk controlled well before he was bundled over by Jhon Lucumi. It was the first Toro spot-kick of the campaign and converted by Sasa Lukic.
Lewis Ferguson pulled a ball across the six-yard box just beyond Arnautovic, while Karamoh and Miranchuk fired off target.
Emmanuel Vignato forced a save out of Milinkovic-Savic at the near post from 12 yards, but it was just a warning, as moments later Vignato floated a ball over the top for Riccardo Orsolini’s well-taken volley at the back post from eight yards.
The hosts turned it around with a similar move, this time Roberto Soriano flicked on a Charalampos Lykogiannis cross for Stefan Posch at the far post, the defender’s debut Serie A goal. Toro claimed there was an Orsolini foul in the build-up.
Ricardo Rodriguez risked an own goal with a defensive header on a free kick.
It should’ve ended 3-1, as in stoppages Arnautovic rolled across with a fantastic rabona pass, only for Orsolini to somehow blast over the bar from six yards.
