Inter thank their defence, as Yann Bisseck scored against Bologna and they held out under siege in the second half, but there is another serious Marko Arnautovic injury.

These were the form teams in Italy, as the Rossoblu won six in a row to consolidate fourth place, while the Nerazzurri had won all 12 competitive games in 2024. Jesper Karlsson and Adama Soumaoro were injured for the hosts, while Stefano Sensi and Juan Cuadrado didn’t make the trip. Jens Odgaard had his first start after two goals off the bench. Alessandro Bastoni returned from suspension, with Hakan Calhanoglu, Davide Frattesi, Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram fit again. Lautaro Martinez was rested ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League visit to Atletico Madrid.

See how it unfolded on the Liveblog.

Alexis Sanchez tested Lukasz Skorupski at the near post after a Carlos Augusto ‘scorpion’ kick assist, while the goalkeeper came to the rescue of Victor Kristiansen after a howler, making the save one-on-one with Nicolò Barella.

Lewis Ferguson’s scorcher stung the gloves of Yann Sommer and Alexis Saelemaekers curled the follow-up wide, but Inter took the lead instead.

The two centre-backs combined, as Bastoni whipped a cross in from the left and found Yann Bisseck for the free header at the far post, as he had got away from Saelemaekers.

Matteo Darmian rolled a dangerous ball across the six-yard box from the right, forcing Kristiansen into an interception on Barella that risked an own goal.

Carlos Augusto felt a calf twinge and was taken off as a precaution at half-time, moving Darmian to left-back.

Bologna threatened an equaliser at the dawn of the second half, as Stefan Posch saw his ferocious cross-shot flash across the face of goal, while Zirkzee’s curler was deflected wide.

The hosts stepped up the tempo and pressure, but Remo Freuler accidentally got himself in the way of a promising Zirkzee strike inside the penalty area and Ferguson drilled wide.

Sommer was right behind the Zirkzee finish after Ferguson won it back in midfield, while Dan Ndoye and debutant Santiago Castro blasted over from promising positions.

The second half was simply a Bologna siege on the Inter goal, but the Nerazzurri held on and kept another clean sheet that takes them a step closer to the Scudetto.

There was one devastating blow in stoppages, because Marko Arnautovic pulled up and collapsed clutching the back of his right hamstring against his old club, leaving Inter down to 10 men.
