Serie A Highlights: Bologna 0-0 Empoli

This was an intriguing mid-table tussle, but the hosts had Aaron Hickey suspended, with Nico Dominguez and Ibrahima Mbaye unavailable. Empoli had their first match since selling Samuele Ricci, with Riccardo Marchizza out injured for the rest of the season.

Andrea Pinamonti tested Lukasz Skorupski in the opening minutes, then Filippo Bandinelli’s ferocious volley whistled just over the bar.

Roberto Soriano forced a save from the Empoli goalkeeper on a Marko Arnautovic knock-down, but Arnautovic almost scored an absolute stunner when his long-range effort dipped to bounce off the crossbar.

Stojanovic ran from his own penalty area to the other end, but was unable to finish the move with a goal. Riccardo Orsolini drilled inches wide, while Stojanovic inspired with a through ball to release Nedim Bajrami and the dinked finish went over the goalkeeper, but skimmed the target.

Empoli really should’ve taken the lead on 68 minutes, but Valerio Verre turned wide one-on-one with the goalkeeper from close range when meeting a Bajrami pass from the right.

Federico Di Francesco was cursing his luck for the visitors too, a curler clipping the frame of the goal from the edge of the penalty area.
