Serie A | Atalanta 4-0 Sampdoria: Koopmeiners brace inspires victory

A Teun Koopmeiners brace guided Atalanta to a comfortable 4-0 win over a struggling Sampdoria side this evening.

La Dea’s league form had been in free-fall in 2022, having failed to find three point since their 6-2 win over Udinese back on January 9. Things were a little more positive for the Ligurian side, who had won two of their last five outings, important as they look to avoid a relegation battle this season.

Atalanta started the match on the front foot and their early efforts were rewarded after just six minutes when Mario Pasalic opened the scoring, giving them a 1-0 lead.

Their pressure continued and Sampdoria struggled to get out of their own half, looking suffocated by the Bergamo side’s pressure.

In the 29th minute Atalanta doubled their lead thanks to Koopmeiners, making it 2-0 in Bergamo. Despite their two goal cushion, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team continued to push, not taking their foot off the gas for the rest of the first half.

Atalanta continued to impose themselves in the second half as Sampdoria took some time to settle, finally, having some attempts around the one-hour mark.

Unfortunately for the Ligurian side things went from bad to worse in the 61st minute when Koopmeiners netted his brace, making it 3-0.

The pace of the match started to dwindle as the second half went on, although Aleksey Miranchuk found his way onto the scoresheet in the 86th minute goal, giving Atalanta a 4-0 lead to close out the match.
