Referees Federico La Penna and Daniele Chiffi have been promoted to Serie A, while Paolo Tagliavento, Antonio Damato and Claudio Gavillucci drop out.
The Italian Referees’ Association named its roster for the 2018-19 season.
La Penna and Chiffi are promoted from the Serie B section to become part of the regular roster of top flight officials.
It’s a surprising move for La Penna, who was in charge during the extremely controversial 2-0 Frosinone win over Palermo in the Serie B promotion play-off.

It’s a surprising move for La Penna, who was in charge during the extremely controversial 2-0 Frosinone win over Palermo in the Serie B promotion play-off.
That game saw legal action taken, as La Penna first awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, changed his mind to a penalty and then back to a free kick.
As Serie B does not have VAR, La Penna was forced to make the decision himself.
The play-off also saw Frosinone players from the sidelines throw extra balls on to the pitch to break up Palermo attacks in stoppages.
Meanwhile, Tagliavento and Damato have now reached the age limit and therefore have to quit the Serie A role.
Gavillucci also drops out, as with Frosinone’s promotion to Serie A, there are now too many referees and clubs from the Lazio region.
