Antonio Conte’s Tottenham exit nears with Spurs reportedly working on a compensation deal for the Italian tactician and sports papers in the Peninsula are strongly linking him with a return to Serie A.

Conte has returned to Italy for the international break and it appears unlikely that he will be in charge of Spurs when the Premier League resumes late next week.

The Times reported on Tuesday that Spurs are working on a compensation deal for the former Juventus midfielder and coach, with Ryan Mason in line to replace him as an interim coach until the end of the season.

Wednesday’s printed editions of Tuttosport and Il Corriere dello Sport newspaper analyse Conte’s options in Serie A, should he return for a third stint in Italy’s top flight in 2023-24.

“Serie A is agitated,” knowing that Conte will soon leave Tottenham, whether it’s now or at the end of the season, writes Il Corriere dello Sport.

Inter, Milan, Roma and Juventus are all being linked with a move for the 53-year-old, although his €17m-a-year contract represents the biggest obstacle for Italian clubs interested in his signature.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the future of Simone Inzaghi at Inter and Stefano Pioli at Milan depends on a top-four finish in Serie A this season.

Inzaghi’s €5m-a-year contract at Inter, valid until 2025, is seen as the biggest question mark for the Nerazzurri facing financial issues.

Milan will also have a reduced transfer budget, so it remains to be seen if Conte would accept the job on the red and black side of San Siro, while Juventus seem the most natural option for the 53-year-old although Massimiliano Allegri ‘seems stable’ in the Bianconeri dugout.

Roma had previously approached Conte and although José Mourinho’s stay appears to be the priority for the Giallorossi, Conte is their main target if the Special One leaves. “This time, Conte wouldn’t say no,” claims Il Corriere dello Sport.
