The 2001-12 Serie A season will kick off on the weekend of August 28 and come to a head on May 13.

A meeting of the Lega Calcio Serie A was held in Milan on Friday and plans drawn up for the next campaign.

It was confirmed the 2011-12 season will kick off on the weekend of August 27-28 and the final round will be on May 13.

Because of the heat in Italy during the summer, the Week 1 fixtures will be evening starts.

There'll be two on the Saturday at 19.00 and 21.00 local time, then one on Sunday August 28 at 19.00 and the rest at 21.00.

In a new development, all the final round games will be played simultaneously with kick-off at 21.00 local time, 20.00 in the UK, rather than in the afternoon.

The winter break is quite long this year, as the last games of 2011 will be on December 18 and the first match in 2012 on January 8.

The Coppa Italia dates have also been mapped out with the first two rounds taking place on August 14 and 21.
