Stefano Sensi says playing and scoring for Italy against Lithuania helped him ‘mentally and physically’ after a tough time at Inter.
The midfielder has struggled with numerous injury worries yet again this season, but came off the bench to open the scoring in tonight’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory in Vilnius.
“On a personal level, it’s wonderful. It’s what I work for and these three games with Italy also helped me mentally and physically.
“I worked on the problems I had in the past and hope now to always be available,” said the often-injured Inter midfielder on RAI Sport.
“We have big objectives at club level, we have won the first three games in the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, so 2021 is going very well so far.”
The substitutions made the difference, as Federico Chiesa and Sensi came on, immediately combining to create the goal.
“I think the coach pushed the players, gave them the right indications to start the second half strong. I wasn’t at that meeting, as I was out warming up and already knew I’d come on straight away.”
The artificial pitch in Vilnius caused some problems for the Azzurri.
“The turf contributed, as it would slow down the ball, we had to really push it hard to get it moving. I think most of all we made the wrong movements in the first half, as we were too eager to take the lead and tried to force through the moves.”
