Cagliari coach Leonardo Semplici hopes to have Radja Nainggolan at the Sardegna Arena next season and said the Belgian midfielder ‘shifts the balance’ at the Rossoblu.

The Casteddu are hoping to sign Nainggolan on a permanent deal from Inter, as the 33-year-old has spent one and a half years on loan in Sardinia over the last two seasons.

The former SPAL coach, who guided Cagliari to safety in Serie A last season, will continue in charge at Sant’Elia and confirmed the club is in talks with the Nerazzurri over a move for the former Roma star.

“I hope so,” Semplici told Il Corriere dello Sport. “He is a player capable of shifting the balance and having him immediately would be very important.

“The club is working and I believe that Cagliari have an ambitious President who, despite the difficulties everyone goes through, will be able to set up a competitive team.”

Nainggolan, who first left Cagliari in January 2014, has played 188 games for the Rossoblu across three spells.
