Cagliari coach Leonardo Semplici thanked his ‘group of extraordinary lads’ and expressed his pride of steering the Rossoblu to safety.

Semplici was brought in to replace Eusebio Di Francesco with Cagliari in the relegation zone, but the former SPAL coach helped the Sardinians to safety with one game left.

A 0-0 draw with Milan at San Siro confirmed the Casteddu’s place in Serie A for another year and Semplici admitted it was ‘an exciting’ battle for safety.

“It was an exciting race towards a target that became possible thanks to a group of extraordinary lads,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Proud of you, proud of these colours. Forza Casteddu.”

Cagliari sit five points above relegation with one game in hand and have gone seven consecutive games without losing in Serie A.
