Former midfielder Clarence Seedorf paid tribute to Sinisa Mihajlovic with a touching message following the Serbian coach’s death.
The former defender sadly passed away at the age of 53 following a long battle with leukaemia. Despite his diagnosis in July 2019, Bologna decided to stick with Mihajlovic and he coached the team for three years before his dismissal in September of this year.
Writing on his Instagram page, Seedorf posted a touching tribute to Mihajlovic, showing the depths of their relationship.
“The final whistle of your match paralysed me for at least an hour. In the world cup environment, everything goes fast and almost all people are in their highest happiness living a dream. You leaving us created a void and filled it with deep reflections on life.
“Particularly your life. You were a warrior even during the hardest battle and you confirmed to me how worthwhile it is to fight for what you love. You loved life and walked away with no regrets. With tremendous respect and affection, I bid you farewell my friend.
“Now peace will be with you, and you can rest forever. Thank you for everything dear Sinisa, I send my condolences to your family.”
Seedorf and Mihajlovic did not play together in their club career but were often adversaries during their six shared years in Serie A.
The former Serbian defender was known to be one of the best free kick takers of his generation during his playing career, once scoring three in one game for Lazio against Sampdoria.
Mihajlovic had many highlights during his 14-year coaching career, including impressive finishes with Catania and Sampdoria.
