Former Inter and Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf expressed his frustration at the lack of coaching opportunities offered to him in Serie A and touched on the Rossoneri’s new winning culture.

The Dutchman, who spent 11 combined years in the Italian peninsula during his playing career, was most recently the head coach of the Cameroon national team, leaving the job in 2019. Prior to that, he worked with Deportivo La Coruna, Shenzhen and Milan.

As a player, Seedorf was one of the best midfielders of his generation, winning two Scudetti and two Champions League titles with the Rossoneri.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Seedorf first discussed how the restart of Serie A will go after the World Cup break.

“I don’t imagine any upheaval. It will be less of an impact than leagues were on the World Cup. The favourites prepared quickly, and Germany, Belgium and Argentina struggled at the start.”

He gave his thoughts on the growth of Milan in recent years.

“Milan have more experience playing important matches and are solid. I believe they will shorten the gap. Milan’s good fortune is to have re-established, especially with Maldini, a winning culture.”

Finally, Seedorf reflected on his lack of coaching opportunities in Serie A. He spent six months with the Rossoneri in 2014 before departing, his last time in the dugout in Italy.

“Yeah, I expected an offer from Serie A and I’m disappointed I didn’t receive one. I remain open, I would like to coach again but it is certainly not a problem.”
