A plaque in Rome dedicated to former Lazio president Umberto Lenizini did not even last 12 hours before it was defaced by Roma fans.
Inaugurated yesterday, the plaque dedicated the garden in Via Crisafulli in Rome to Lenizini, who was president of the Biancocelesti from 1965 to 1980, overseeing their first ever Scudetto success.
This morning, passers-by discovered that the plaque had been painted yellow and red by assumed Roma fans, something that has caused outcry from local Lazio fans.
Alessandro Onorato, the councillor for Tourism and Sport, called it “a cowardly gesture, which doesn’t belong to the healthy fan,” and has mandated for it to be cleaned and restored.
Gabriele Pulici, the son of Lazio’s Scudetto winning goalkeeper Felice Pulici, shared his frustration on Twitter, posting the defaced plaque with the caption: “And this is their civility….”
Literally every single thing dedicated to a Lazio or Roma player is defaced in Rome by the other side. This is a non story.
