Monza have mathematically ensured their survival in Serie A this season, an achievement that’ll cost Silvio Berlusconi’s club over €45m.

The Biancorossi secured promotion to the Italian topflight for the first time in their history last season in Serie B, prompting Berlusconi and CEO Adriano Galliani to bring in a number of important reinforcements last summer.

With Raffaele Palladino at the helm, Monza have done well this season, looking an ambitious but raw side that have picked up wins over Juventus, Inter and Fiorentina.

As highlighted by Calcio e Finanza, Monza will now have to cough up around €45.7m following their successful debut season in Serie A, with a large part of this due to various obligation to buy clauses.

Matteo Pessina, Andrea Petagna, Pablo Marì, Alessio Cragno and Gianluca Caprari were all signed on loan deals with conditional obligation to buy clauses attached, all linked to avoiding relegation, so now all these clauses have been triggered.

A further €6,154,500 must be paid to the squad and staff in bonuses, again linked to avoiding relegation.
