Simone Scuffet has thanked Francesco Guidolin for giving him a chance at Udinese and admits he is sorry to see him step away from the bench.

The Coach confirmed earlier this week his retirement from his current role, to move into a supervisory position at the club overseeing development with the Zebrette, Watford and Granada.

“I am sorry he is leaving because besides being a great Coach he was a person who was very helpful, especially with us youngsters,” Scuffet has considered in reaction.

“But, it is good that he will remain within the club – he can provide a big hand to his successor.”

Scuffet was handed his senior debut by Guidolin against Bologna at the start of February, after Zeljko Brkic picked up an injury in the warm-up. The 17-year-old didn’t let go of the starting place to the end of the season.

“This season was very nice indeed. Initially I was training a lot, in the background, trying to take as much as possible from the guys ahead of me.

“And then I was given this great opportunity, so I have to thank everyone.

“During the warm-up, a few minutes before [was when I was told I’d debut]. It was a huge thrill, everything went through my head.

“The most memorable stadiums played in? It is easy to say San Siro – it is exciting just to think about playing there. But the stands at Genoa, so close to the field, that stadium is special.”

It was put to the goalkeeper that he is proof that Udinese don’t just unearth talented youngster from abroad.

“The proof comes from the fact that the guys who have had a great season with the primavera are all Italian, indeed, virtually all of them are from the surrounding areas of Udine.”
